Levenhuk offers all types of optical products such as binoculars, monoculars, telescopes, and microscopes. Today we'd like to center our attention on the last segment represented by the Levenhuk Rainbow 2L PLUS Microscope model - a great microscope with an excellent price/quality ratio. Find out whether this microscope for under $100 is just a children's toy or a quality instrument for serious research.
Levenhuk Rainbow 2L PLUS - designed for education
The world around us is full of amazing things, but, as we know, some of them cannot be seen by the human naked eye. To see all wonders of the microcosm, you'll need a suitable optical instrument. The microscope we are introducing today allows you to study plants, insects, microorganisms, or detect invisible-to-the-naked-eye scratches on a coin.
The Levenhuk Rainbow 2L PLUS microscope combines the advantages of the previous line, Levenhuk Rainbow 2L, but with new features. The instrument is supplied with the Levenhuk K50 Experiment Kit, which will help young explorers with their first experiments and research. The box contains 5 ready-to-use specimens, additional blank glass slides, dust cover, special tools for sample preparation (including forceps), hatchery for artemia, raw materials for observation, an informative color guide that contains information on the microscope design and descriptions of some interesting experiments, and a user manual.
The main difference compared to preceding models is improved optics. The Rainbow 2L PLUS offers greater magnification of up to 640x, and thus the microscope can be used for advanced research by biology students. All microscopes are equipped with a special spring-loaded objective lens - the mechanism protects the lens from damage even when the lens comes into contact with a slide during focusing.
Another advantage of Levenhuk Rainbow 2L PLUS microscopes is that their bodies are made of durable metal. This design ensures their long service life even when used intensively in schools or laboratories. Also worth mentioning is their modern design and 5 vivid colors to choose from - one of these attractive microscopes will always look wonderful in a child's room or on your desk. By the way, Levenhuk offers a lifetime warranty on its products.
The quality of materials and workmanship is very high. Optical components are made of highly transparent glass, so distortions are minimized. Multi-layer lens coating increases the amount of transmitted light. High-precision focusing mechanism allows you to clearly see even the smallest details of observed objects. The monocular head is inclined at 45° to ensure the most comfortable viewing position. It also rotates 360° around its axis, which is very convenient for group work.
The microscope is equipped with a revolving nosepiece with three objective lenses - 4x, 10x and 40x. These lenses provide 64x, 160x and 640x magnifications, respectively. 40x lens is equipped with a special spring mechanism - even if a novice user accidently touches the observed slide with the lens, the spring-loaded lens retracts a little, preventing any damage to the optics and the sample.
The microscope is equipped with two illumination systems allowing you to observe transparent, opaque and semi-transparent objects. Lower illumination is used to observe transparent microscope samples - the light passes through the observed specimen, forming an image. Using this method, you can observe microorganisms in a water drop or the finest cuts of plants. On the other hand, upper illuminator reflects light off of the sample, allowing you to observe various opaque objects such as paper, fabric or coins. In order to examine semi-transparent samples, use both upper and lower illuminators. The brightness level is adjustable - you can choose the optimal level for each particular sample. Illumination can be powered by AC power or batteries (therefore, the instrument can be used outdoors).
